Mum's Visit....

My Mum came to visit the other day...we were going to be designing her 80th Birthday Party Celebration Invites...she wanted to have it printed on a simple notelet...but I thought for such a special occassion...they needed to be pretty special too!

So we got to work....and in proper Mother and daughter tradition (or at least in our house! LOL!) we argued and changed our minds several times before we came up with a simple yet stunning card!

Oooh don't think it was this one! that got rejected too! hehehe! and plus the english was incorrect on this one....it was very simple in the end...just the first piccy on a red carded background....simple yet perfect :) You can use this piccy if you want...My Mum will be sooo flattered if you use her picture in your work :) and if you do use it at all please do show us :).....it is a picture of my Mum when she was 18 years old and I think the surrounding material is a Tanya Whelan fabric - but please correct me if I am wrong...it might be a Cabbages and Roses!...But I changed some of the flowers in photoshop to fit around the frame.

We did have a laugh though! even though my Mum doesn't really like the decoration of the HAPPY house and frequently moans about how cluttered we are! Rotten cheek!....each to their own taste ay!

It was nice having her over to stay for a few days...
Where did all those years go! I remember her reading me Nursery Rhymes - only yesterday! :)

Guy Fawkes Night Supper....Yum!

Tagliatelli spaghetti (1 fresh 250g packet serves 4)
1 leek chopped, Bacon lardons (as many as you like, I use 2 £1.00 packets from tesco's)
1-2 large tablespoons horseradish (depending on how hot you like it)

3/4 pint of milk
knob of butter (or dollop! LOL)

1.  Bring to the boil a pan of water and add the tagliatelle.

2. chop and wash the leeks and add into a frypan or large wok with the bacon lardons...fry until soft and the bacon cooked through...add 1 tablespoon of horseradish....and stir
(Please ignore the orange le-crueset! I know I know I don't do orange!...but this crock pot makes and ideal stew and it was only 50p! bargain!)

3.  Add the boiled through tagliatelli to the frypan with the milk and another dollop (lol) of horseradish....stir and add a dollop of butter....add the lid and cook for a futher 10 minutes on a simmering heat.....

4.  Open the lid and give it a stir...you might need to add a little more milk at this stage....you are trying to make a creamy sauce.

5. Simmer for a further 5 minutes or until the sauce has thickened...

6. Serve with a sprinkling of cheese...

OR....

have it like us and boil some spinach and add as much garlic as you like....we like lots and lots :) (especially pickled garlic which is less strong! I found mine in the 99p store :)) strain and serve on top of the pasta with the cheese ;)

and VOILA...you have a very delicious and fairly cheap meal :)

Grrrrr! NO MORE JEDWARD !!!!!

I AM SOOOO ANGRY!

WHY OH WHY IS JOHN AND EDWARD STILL IN X FACTOR!
WHO THE HELL IS VOTING FOR THEM!
I actually think it is a FIX to get more people talking about the show!
....Apparently Ireland cannot vote! and thats why I find it even more unbelievable that they are being kept in!  I think we should be allowed to see how many voted for each of them...because how do we know that the votes are NOT fixed!....Sorry about this MOAN...but I just had to get it off of my chest! LOL!
GRRRR!

CONCLUSION
I have decided that it is all a fix and we have been led astray with this show! gone are the days when it was exciting and you voted for your favourite and they were saved!...its not exciting anymore....infact i think these type of shows are getting more boring each time they are on! Bring back an updated version of Blind date or something different for our saturday night tv!  and how long do we have to suffer! 3 months is it!!!! the channels have got carried away with phone votes! Ok so it probably makes them alot of money! but come on...we the general public are surely not that stupid!....

I agree with all of your comments gals...thankyou :) I thought I might actually get a few fans of J & E commenting...but no! we are all sick of it....Dotty daisies said we should have a bloggers revolt! good Idea :)

The bookies are saying that J & E are going to win this show! if that is the case - what is the point in voting or watching! like with Big Brother...i switched off this year...I am going to do the same with this show too...lets start going out to the pubs of England and listen to the real talent...thousands of brilliant bands are playing in the pubs up and down the country every day, this is where we should be getting our talent from...kids that are on the road, that are dedicated...that drive from one gig to another.

GRRRR! sorry about this...but this show has made me mad! and I am voting with my tv button and will be switching off this weekend and indeed every weekend!....the show is too long anyway! I mean saturday and sunday! Gosh it makes me want to spit!!! LOL!

love Happy xx

Happy Halloween

Well...Here we are! Saturday 31st October...Welcome to Halloween!...and the Church on the Green. I have been meaning to go down to my local church and take some pictures, because the last time I visited it, I didnt have my camera on me, but spent a good hour having a look around this lovely place...set amoungst Gillinghams 'surburbia' !

This church is amazing...founded before 1086, you really get a sense of history and people that have lived before us...just by walking around it....(if you are interested in the History of my local church...please click here ;) )

The people that are buried here are from all era's...there are soldiers buried here from when the Dutch invaded back in 1667 to a Mr Palmer Esq who died of Yellow Fever in 1851...I am sorry if you are finding this all rather morbid, but I find this all soooo interesting :)

I love history and architecture....and what better place to live, than Medway, which is so steeped in history, what with Chatham down the road (famous for its world renowned Dockyard!) and Rochester a bit further down, known for the Home of Charles Dickens...you can imagine the beautiful places that we are living amoungst eh!

Ok ok, so we have our dodgy parts! what area doesn't! but I feel we should celebrate our history here in medway...Do it yourself in your area, take a walk and look around...sit on a park bench and take in the history of your area...you see the thing is we are all rushing around these days! driving here and there....not noticing the beautiful places that are staring us in the face!

Our church parish is called St Mary Magdalen and I have often wondered whether the Island that we lived on previously, which was called St Mary's Island, was named after this church, as St. Mary's has had a close connection with the Royal Navy and with the Chatham Royal Dockyard (much of which actually lay within Gillingham) through the centuries....and for very many years our church tower was a navigational mark for ships sailing up the Medway estuary.

Above is the view from around the back of the church...as you can see it overlooks the River Medway!.....there is also ample grounds in the church and although alot of its 20 acres has now been taken away and used for housing (especially the little  cottages that align the surrounding streets, that were built for the dockers) I understand that it was used for a fair held once a year and a market once a week in the 14th century.

Gosh I have gone off on a bit of a tangeant here, but its lovely to find out such things from ones area, don't you think :) .....so anyway whats all this got to do with Halloween! well! it just seemed a little apt if you know what I mean...graveyards and all that! Although this church is not 'spooky' at all! This is my little contribution to this holiday season.

....And if you are religious, please do not be affended by the fact that I have dressed some of these piccies up in Halloweenesq stylie, its just a bit of fun!...something which is still kinda catching on over here in 'Blighty'!...(celebrating Halloween i mean!) You guys from across the pond are sooo brilliant at all the decorations and fun for the kids etc!...you couldn't fly me over there could ya...so I could celebrate with ya'all...LOL! p'haps next year! hehehe!

So come on gals...what are you doing for halloween and how have you decorated the house...have you gone overboard?...Have your neigbours gone overboard? do you love to decorate and make things for this season and when do you take them decs down? what is the most you have ever collected, when you have gone trick or treating? and whats the worst trick you have ever played on someone
?

Let me know gals...I would love to hear from you :)

Bye for now and
HAPPY HALLOWEEN

Mirror Mirror...on the wall

Do you remember this lovely vintage mirror that we had on the wall in the dining room of our old house?

.....Well! last weekend, My hubby's Dad (we'll call him Big Fred!) bought his masonary drill over to our house and together, we put it on the wall of our new dining room! well I say new!...we have been in this house nearly a year now! but peeps say that it looks like we have lived here for years!...we also changed the configuration of the dining table and have been able to fit in, the old house's hall table too!  Goodness knows how much else we will be able to fit in this little cosy cottage!....soon the walls are sure to fall down with all the weight of the furniture and 'object ja doiux'!!!! LOL!

Happy Thursday gals...speak soon xx
